There's nothing particularly exciting happening in my life right now. Really. I'm serious. Why won't you believe me? | Tuesday, April 29, 2003

After about six weeks of almost daily stretching, I can finally touch my toes. Go me! Next goal is to get abs. Almost there, just gotta lose a little bit of flab. Aren't you so excited for me? Because I know you care. | Tuesday, April 01, 2003
In the past few days, WinAMP has randomly chosen some Madonna songs and I found them to be quite, umm, stimulating. Some of you may think that me enjoying Madonna songs is a contradiction to my sometimes "I only listen to cool new wave and synthpop bands" philosophy. But my philosophy is good music that has an edge*. Madonna certainly has an edge, or at least she did in the eighties and early nineties. She was able to do what Britney, Christina, and all those other slutty teenage girls can only dream about. When Madonna sings, her voice carries raw sexuality. She doesn't have to call herself "a slave for u" (learn to spell, Britney) or "dirrty" (learn to spell, Christina) yet still manages to convey a much greater sense of sexuality. Perhaps J-Lo (that's what Jennifer Lopez likes to be known as), who with her teenage years behind her, is a better comparison. But J-Lo falls short somewhere. Her songs just don't have an edge to them. Even though she has recorded a a duet with Bono, I highly doubt I'll ever be a convert. Madonna will always be the sex goddess of pop music. * of course, U2 is good music with The Edge and is therefore the best band in the world. | |
