"What I really want to tell you is that most of the artists that commercial alternative radio broke in the late '90s suck and are over."

That sounds like something I would say, unfortunately, it was not I that was not I who said that. The words were spoken by Marc Geiger who is involved with organizing this year's Lollapalooza. Rumours can be found here and here.

Yay! The Bloor Cinema re-opens today. Now I have way more flexibility for watching my movies than just the Royal.

At the risk of sounding like a girl, I bought so much stuff this week. I had intended to go out and buy a much needed pair of shoes. Instead, I bought a whole bunch of stuff, none of which included footwear.

The list:
- cargo pants (I seem to be collecting cargo pants)
- jeans (only the third pair in my wardrobe)
- warm-up pants (I've been looking for two-years for a decent pair not from Nike)
- shirt (designer name, but it's not splashed across the front)
- 256mb smart card (no need to get real Sony products)
- wool coat (I've been looking for months, thank goodness for end of season sales)
- belt (closing time, no tax special)

Fortunately, I still have the Chinese bargain hunter instinct. Can you believe that only two items on the list were more than $40 and that nothing exceeded $100?

Forget Friday the 13th or other such superstitious days. March 8, 2004 is a horrible day. I should have known something was up when I randomly got a nosebleed just before lunch. I forgot my ear plugs for the British Sea Power show at the Horseshoe. I'd seen them last time they were in town and I remember my ears hurting. Tonight is no exception. It's been two hours and I can still hear ringing, though it's sort of a good ringing since they put on quite a spectacle. As we were heading out of the club, we searched for our coats that we had left on a chair. We searched and searched to no avail. WTF? We learn from some kind folks that they say a kind of crazy girl had taken two coats about an hour ago. We search and search until I finally found them far from where we had left them. Thank goodness we found them. But it was a scare. And then I get home to check my email and more bad news. Nikki is leaving EXIT! No, not my sweet, beautiful Nikki!

And the bad day wasn't just for me. It seemed to affect other people too.

But today wasn't entirely bad. I met up with my friend Dave who is normally out in Vancouver. The concert was fun. And I did eventually find my coat. I can only hope that tomorrow will be a little better.

Check out these great videos:

I saw the following video at the Montreal Comedy Festival in 2001. It has such great lines as "my spoon is too big" and "my anus is bleeding". Hilarious piece of work.
my spoon is too big

In searching for the above video, I also stumbled upon another short by the same guy. It's not as funny, but something I'm sure all the bitter guys will enjoy.

Since I haven't posted any pictures recently, here's something for you:

Scary picture of the day, me with an afro

me with an afro

"Chinese guy with afro" is going to be an item on post-post-hipster bingo.
For those who don't get it, try hipster bingo and post-hipster bingo.

I'm not a big television person. In fact, I think television, along with Hollywood, Disney and bad pop music, are contributing to the decline of Western civilization. But for some reason I've been itching to purchase a TV tuner card. There are very few programs that I will actually sit down and watch. Actually, there are currently zero shows that I watch regularly since I don't own a television. But I guarantee that if I find a tennis match on television, I will stop what I'm doing and watch it for the next one, two, or five (if Andy Roddick or Todd Martin are playing) hours. It's too bad that I have no method of watching my beloved tennis matches regularly at home. Because of this, I am asking you to give generously to the "Drivel TV-Tuner Card" fund. Click on the "Paypal Donate" button to the left and help those without the gift of tennis. All contributions are tax-deductible. Alternatively, let me know if you're selling one or know of a place where I can get a decent one at a reasonable price.

I'll actually comment on why television, Hollywood, Disney, and bad pop music are causing Western civilization to decay like the tooth of a ten year old kid who eats too much candy and doesn't brush at some later time.

Saw Bubba Ho-Tep tonight at the Royal. I had missed it on Friday night because the show was sold out. I thought tickets only went on sale 20 minutes before the show, but apparently some people got them three hours in advance. Poo! Anyway, I only had to stand in line for a total of half an hour which is still a very long time considering there is hardly ever a lineup at this cinema for any show. The movie was as expected from a Bruce Campbell B-movie. I can't even claim to be a big fan because I haven't seen any of the Evil Dead series, but I plan on doing so shortly, although I have his guest appearance on Spider-Man. There were definitely some silly moments, but I was expecting the stupid moments to be a little smarter (if that makes any sense). It was a fun way to waste an evening I would have otherwise procrastinated in front of my computer, but it wasn't all that it was made out to be.

In other news, it turns out that I actually have to pay taxes for 2003. Who would have thought. The first year I'm a student for twelve whole months and I have to pay tax. I guess my income as a teaching assisstant combined with being deducted a grand total of $0 in taxes through the year contributed to this phenomenon. I have a little dilemma now. I still have one day to contribute to my RRSPs for this year. My rough calculations say I need to pay about $500, but that can be nuked out with a $2000 RRSP contribution. What do all you accountants and financial planners have to say about that? I guess I usually pay that tax, but since it's deducted from my paycheque, I don't worry about it. Now that I have to pay during income tax season, I feel like I have to do something about it. Your advice is appreciated.

And just for providing me with advice, I'll give you some fun links with mash-ups. But not just any ordinary mash-up, it's Missy Elliot vs. Joy Division in VIDEO. Damn cool. For more mash-ups, try this link.
