Pasadena

Pasadena, home of the Rose Bowl and Caltech.

Aaron and Martin at one of the many fountains at Caltech. The beautiful gardens of Caltech.
Palm trees in Pasadena.

Beaches

We stopped at many beaches on our way to San Diego. This is Santa Monica.

Me, Marty, and Aaron in our Baywatch pose. In the water for the fun of it.
The sun starts to set at the beach. This isn't a beach, this is the flood on the road on the way home in Santa Barbara.

SeaWorld

SeaWorld in San Diego, home of Shamu.

Yes, it's Shamu in the flesh. The crowd was very pleased. Under the pool with the sharks. I don't know how I got this cool effect.
Chillin' with the pink flamingos.

San Diego

San Diego was a very nice city.

In Old Town, going for an artistic pose. Marty and Aaron in Old Town.
The buildings and the water in San Diego were very nice. A view of the harbour from the bridge.

On the Rocks

We took a long break on the rocks since the scenery and weather was so beautiful.

Aaron doesn't seem to know what hit him. Looks like I was caught by surprise.
Everyone is just so calm. I want to fly like an eagle.

Golden Gate Bridge

The awe inspiring Golden Gate bridge. We stopped here on the way to the Muir Woods.

This photo is so good that it could be used as a postcard. Just to prove that I was actually there.
Another view of the wonderful bridge. This is how San Francisco looks like from the Golden Gate bridge.

Muir Woods

The Muir Woods is an old-growth forest of redwoods. The scenery was simply remarkable.

A little waterfall along the stream. I love waterfalls. Yet another waterfall. Did I mention that I like waterfalls?
These are are some mighty tall trees. The stream that feeds the waterfalls.
More water, taken from a bridge that crosses the stream. Me, Rich, and Mike to prove we were there.
A tree at the entrance that looks like it came out of a fantasy novel.

San Francisco

I took the Caltrain to San Francisco for day trip. This is what I brought back.

The famed Alcatraz prison. a.k.a. The Rock. The Bay Bridge that collapsed during the 1989 earthquake, disrupting the Battle of the Bay World Series.
The Transamerica building as seen from Chinatown, the tallest building in San Francisco. These are the gates to Chinatown. I sent a postcard just like this to my parents.
The buildings of The City gleaming as the sun sets. Pacific Bell Park, home of the Giants. This is how it looked like before it opened.

Stanford

Stanford is easily the most awesome university campus I have visited.

Palm Drive, the grand entrace to Stanford. Me in front of the David Packard Electrical Engineering building.
The beautiful architecture at Stanford exemplified in the Geology building. The Rodin Sculpture Garden. Which one doesn't belong?
That's just me in yet another engineering building. A hawk that I saw on the walk along Palm Drive going home.
A conference held by Douglas Hofstadter on the topic "Will Spiritual Robots Replace Humanity By The Year 2100?"

Berkeley

The trip to the University of California-Berkeley was my first while in San Jose.

The entrance to the university as the trees start to bud. The engineering building at Berkeley.

Seattle

I took a trip to Seattle aboard Alaska Airlines to attend the NAQT NW SCT at the University of Washington-Seattle. Oh yeah, I also met up with a few friends who came down from Vancouver.

That's me getting ready for bed at the hotel. Amy poses for me.
Bruce seem preoccupied on the phone to smile. Amy is explaining something to Peter.
The NAQT Sectional held at the University of Washington-Seattle. Yes, that's me outside yet another engineering building.
It that Micro? Or is it Soft? I was there before the ruling to split the world's largest software company.

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz, what California's all about. Beaches, surfers, rollerblading, volleyball, and babes.

Me and my pi. A surfer on the waves of Monterey Bay.
The waves splashing into the rocks. We crossed a fence that said "Do not cross" to take this picture. The waves retreat, showing the natural finish of the rocks.
Staring at the sea, lost in thought. Perched atop the hill, Rich is lost in thought.

Sunset

I'm so glad that we stayed for the sunset in Santa Cruz. It was truly a magnificent sight.

First, I took a silhouette of Rich. Then, Rich took a silhouette of me.
The sun has not yet touched the horizon. As it sets, the plethora of colours of the sky are unveiled.
The sun, almost hidden behind the earth. At last, the sun has retreated.

San Jose

These are some pictures of San Jose that actually make it look nice.

The fountain in downtown San Jose. The fountain from a different angle, the Adobe building in the background.
I was fortunate to be carrying a camera on the way to the bus stop to get this rainbow picture.

Nuvation Scunt

The final Nuvation party of the term was a Havenger Scunt.

Boat racing is a global phenomenon. Some funny looking people, especially that guy with the hair.
The co-op students spending their last days together. Tamara with a silly hat. Steve is ready to rumble.
That's me, the human bingo dabber. Yuck, I got red paint all over me.
Our esteemed CEO, Michael Worry (who also had red paint all over himself). Look at the American influence on Rich. Gun, alcohol, and Uncle Sam.

Passover Seder

Since three of my friends are Jewish, I had Passover seder with them in San Jose.

Rich, Marty, and Aaron, showing off their Jewish food. Does the yarmulke make me look Jewish?
Rich cleans up the mess he made after spilling the noodles all over the kitchen. The food for our Passover seder. I bet Moses didn't eat this well.
That was one good meal.

Home

These pictures were take around my home in San Jose.

The outside of our place. That's where I slept for four months.
Aaron, Neil, and Charles. Are you always on the phone Charles? Kieran, rests after a long night of euchre.
That's the other side of my room where Rich slept.
